Herrmann's Manufaktur is a family owned and eco-certified company which specialized in producing the highest quality dog and cat food.

Founded in 2006 mainly due to inner conviction, the company is managed by Mr. Erich Herrmann, producing in its own fabrication plant, situated in the idyllic Bavarian upland, in Assling.

Every day Herrmann's Manufaktur produces - with love and devotion - high-quality organic pet food. We have set ourselves the task of constantly giving the best, both for the animals which live from our food and for those which become pet food - they too deserve our respect. Herrmann's has been certified being an organic producer and has joined the strictly controlled producer association Biokreis e.V.

All of our actions are done according to high ethical guidelines.

  • The food is adapted to the natural diet of dogs and cats. In particular, allergic animals are in focus.
  • Only the ingredients listed on the label are included. Especially for allergic animals this is of utmost importance
  • Only one protein source is used, and only high-quality muscle, heart and lung.
  • When using poultry, we only utilize breast meat, neck and small parts. Offal such as kidney or spleen are inferior, from our point of view, and are not processed.
  • Liver is only used on cat menus

We only use meat parts, which are spurned by humans, but good for our pets, because it is a legal requirement to do so. By fulfilling this obligation, all the food that is delivered, automatically become so-called “K3 goods”.
This is the only way it can be ensured that no meat is actually wasted and the animals do not lose their life in vain. It is important, however, that we do NOT use fillers such as hooves, feathers, horns, pig bristles or any other parts of the animal body, which do not belong there. In addition, we refrain from – in our view - inferior parts such as kidney or spleen. So we can promise you that your four-legged friend gets a species-appropriate and natural food.

For us it is a matter of course that no animal experiments are made, after all, the welfare of farm animals is just as important to us as the welfare of our own animal.

The recipes are all developed by ourselves in close consultation with our nutritionist. However, we do test our new menus and varieties regarding acceptance, digestion, etc. All of our employees, most friends and acquaintances are diligently joining us with their own animals. These results are then incorporated into the recipes.

Of course, you have the opportunity to visit us and get to know our company. This visit should be scheduled in advance, please.

At Herrmann’s a cold filling is made, which means that the pouches / cans are filled at about 4°C to prevent bacterial growth during the filling process. We work in a closed environment, in which the meat and the other ingredients for the menus are minced and packed in raw and cold condition. All of this is happening WITHOUT the use of additives, fillers and any other supplementary.

Then the pouch / can is closed immediately and processed in an autoclave with hot water to preserve the food. The contact with the cooking water is completely prevented. Therefore the originally filled meat is "captured" in the can.

During the cooking process, a natural meat juice can occur, similar to a steak in the pan. This juice can be seen as a separated liquid or broth when opening the can.

Depending on the ingredients and also the deviation of the raw materials, the amount of fluid can vary. At cold temperatures, the liquid coagulates.

The meat mainly comes from Bavarian certified organic farms, fish from sustainable fishing, game and horse from their natural environment. All other ingredients also originate from controlled organic farming and are predominantly of regional origin.

No!

Only meat, which is spurned by humans and loved by our four-legged friends, is processed. These are muscle parts such as heart, lungs, diaphragm muscle. These meats are well suited for our pets. Thus no animal died in vain.

At Herrmann’s a cold filling is made, which means that the pouches / cans are filled at about 4°C to prevent bacterial growth during the filling process. Thereafter, these pouches / cans are immediately closed and then gently heated, with a temperature up to 120°C. This production process alone makes it possible to preserve our pet food for 18 to 24 months. No additives and supplementary of any kind are used. This applies to all our pet food.

We use salmon.

We use venison from roe and red deer, hunted in the wild.
No wild boar is used.

The horse meat is obtained from regional surroundings as well as – a small fraction - from Baden-Württemberg. We source locally to avoid live transports. Foals are not used at all. The horses we buy are either from organic farms where riding schools are run, farms where not all retired school horses can be kept, or from other herds. In any case the keeping of the horse as a "pet" is not possible anymore.

We do not buy stocks from farms where the foals are taken off the mare to increase the milk production.

Minerals in the diet are very important nutrients, especially calcium and phosphorus. Since bones are, above all, a natural supplier for calcium, small parts and bones are also used in poultry and goat meat as part of the usual feeding recommendations (approx. 10%).
The food is finely minced and no artificial substance added.
TIn menus with meat from the SELECTION line it is not possible to mince bones. Therefore the calcium-phosphorus ratio is compensated by the addition of organic eggshell powder. This is specially indicated as an ingredient.
TMore information about calcium and phosphorus can be found on our website Blog.

YES - but only in the menus of the SELECTION line.

In our pet foods, heart, muscle meat, green lipped mussel and shrimps are the main provider of taurine. However, taurine may be lost when the food is heated. We had an independent laboratory ordered to determine the content of taurine in our pure meat menus. The official results show that the animals used for our food are natural products which are – obviously - unequal. Hence the results correspondingly also vary. For cats, taurine is essential and any deficiency can therefore have major health consequences.

This means that a not sufficiently balanced feeding may lead to a deficiency of taurine. We would like to counteract on this and we therefore supplement the cat food with 0.1% taurine. The pure meats from the KREATIV MIX and the cat menus of the CLASSIC line remain untouched.

The service team of Herrmann’s will provide you the test results of the pure meat types upon request.

At Herrmann's we use genuine meat, which we mince. In goat and poultry this is chopped finely, coarser in the other varieties. Bits in sauce are usually produced by large-scale industrial manufacturers. What is processed in these factories is usually a foam of grounded carcasses etc., which is then pressed, cut into cubes and covered with sauce.
For us this is not acceptable. As mentioned, we use real meat.

We DO NOT use any preservatives. Our food is prepared by cold filling, which means the pouches / cans are filled at about 4°C to prevent bacterial growth during the filling process. Then they are closed and gently heated.

This production process allows us to preserve the food for 18 to 24 months without preservatives.

NO! Menadione, also known as vitamin K3, is artificially produced and is also highly controversial. Organic products are characterised – amongst others - by the fact that they contain no unwanted additives such as pesticides, antibiotics, colouring or flavour enhancers and especially no artificial substances.

It often is exactly one of these substances that can trigger allergies or unwanted reactions. For optimal care of your animal and your reassurance we confirm that we produce purely and transparently. This means that our pet food only contains the ingredients indicated on the label – nothing else.

NO! We do not use adhesive agents or filling materials and also no artificial vitamins, other substances or supplements. We certainly distance ourselves from that.

Spleen and kidneys are often recommended for feeding, especially in raw meat feeding. From our point of view, the spleen delivers a lot of iron, but because of its high proportion of connective tissue, it has a lower protein quality and is more difficult to digest. The kidneys are considered a detoxification organ and should only be fed occasionally. As well as that they are not often eaten with pleasure.

As our pure meat meals and menus are fed on a daily basis, we refrain from the usage of spleen and kidneys.

Thyroid is NOT used. However, due to the slaughter process, residual components cannot be completely ruled out.

Small parts in our poultry and goat meat meals means a certain proportion of bone. Since bones are, above all, a natural source of nutrients, especially calcium, we use poultry necks or small parts as a natural source of calcium in poultry and goat meat (according to current recommendations on food rations the content should be approx. 10% to 15%). The meat is finely minced and nothing artificial is added. With these menus this procedure is quite easily possible because small parts can be finely minced without any bone parts remaining in the food. With meat such as beef, where it is not possible to grind bones, cartilage is used to fulfill the same effect. We consciously refrain from the usage of bone meal. This is the reason why the calcium and phosphorus content may fluctuate slightly.

There are no synthetic or nature-identical vitamins or other substances or supplementary in our food. The EC organic guidelines were not sufficient enough for us. We wanted to go a step further. Therefore, we have been eco-certified and joined the strictly controlled producer association Biokreis. Biokreis emerged in 1979 from a consumer movement. Its strict guidelines go far beyond the statutory minimum requirements of EU Bio. For example, Biokreis also prohibits the use of artificial or nature-identical vitamins or additives.

We do recommend a varied diet for your four-legged friend. To do so, we offer the possibility to select from more than 25 menu types and thus different recipes. With the KREATIV MIX you get the opportunity to individually create the food rations.

We should not have a problem with the weight. We work with calibrated scales and take random samples of the running production in order to check the weight accuracy. In rare cases, however, it may happen that products may be overweight or underweight of up to 2%, which is still meeting the legal tolerance.

The goal in feeding should be a natural and species-appropriate diet that adequately covers the demand on nutrients for a well-functioning metabolism as well as delivering sufficient energy.

The food should be regarded as home cooked. The menus only contain one source of protein as well as healthy vegetables and fruits, fats and sometimes also carbohydrates such as cereals or potatoes. They are an alternative if you do not want to feed your pet raw meat, but you do not have the time to cook yourself. The assortment contains a large selection of menus, which gives you a wide choice and offers variety in diet, as well as balance in nutrition.

Here on our blog you will find another article regarding this topic: What does a menu need to become complete feed?

The KREATIV MIX offers the opportunity to individually create the food according to your own ideas and to match it to the animal's situation. In the KREATIV MIX you find all the ingredients needed for a healthy diet, such as meat, vegetables & fruits, cereal or potato flakes, precious organic oils and herbs as well as organic eggshell powder and green lipped mussel powder.

From our point of view, an appropriate nourishment means that the animals are provided with all the macro and micro nutrients they need to maintain their metabolism. This should be secured by a diet, which is species-appropriate as well as varying. However, it also requires some basic knowledge regarding feeding. One of these elements is the fact that each animal is to be considered individually.

Hence dietary supplements to optimize the nourishment should be used consciously and not as a substitute for a healthy diet. From Herrmann's point of view, any supplement to optimize nutrition should entirely come from natural sources.

In case of illness, a consultation with the attending vet / veterinary practitioner is required in any case!

The food can basically be used starting from second month of age. It should be remembered that puppies are still growing and therefore have an increased need for high-quality proteins.
The same applies to seniors. In this case, to prevent muscle loss.

Puppies need a higher meat content, since they are in the growth, they are "structuring" their body. The content of puppy menus should be highly digestible or highly utilizable meat, mainly muscle meat. This is the reason why our puppy menus contain more meat than other menus.
In addition, there also needs to be healthy vegetables and fruits, oils and some carbohydrates.

Feeding mix for dogs

  • 50 to 80% meat
  • 10 to 20% vegetables and fruits
  • 5 to 20% carbohydrates, e.g. cereal flakes or potato flakes
  • 2 to 5% of this fibre / raw fibre such as psyllium, chia seeds or coconut flakes
  • 5% fat such as linseed oil, borage oil or coconut fat

Feeding mix for cats

  • 90 to 95% meat
  • 5 to 10% fats and carbohydrates, especially fibre, fruits and vegetables

The amount of food needed strongly depends on the age and the activity of the animals. But also the individual constitution, food utilization and the state of health play a role.

Hence the feeding recommendation serves only as a guide and is based on a healthy animal with normal activity and normal weight:

Feeding recommendation for dogs

  • from the 2nd to the 6th month of age: 3% of the body weight
  • from the 6th month of age onwards: 2 to 2.5% of body weight
  • for senior dogs: 2% of body weight

Feeding recommendation for cats

  • from the 2nd to the 6th month of age: 4 to 5% of body weight
  • from the 6th month of age onwards: 3 to 3.5% of the body weight
  • for senior cats: 2 to 2.5% of body weight

Notation
Each animal uses food differently - very active, underweight or overweight and sick animals are to be considered separately!
Further information, such as regarding energy/calorific value or the energy of the nourishment, you can obtain from the service team at Herrmann's-Manufaktur.

We recommend dividing the food rations into two portions a day, especially for large dogs. The food also can be divided for cats. Some cats eat several times during the day. Especially puppies and kittens need several small meals a day, mainly in the first few months.

The pure meats are kept natural. In order to compensate for calcium / phosphorus in our feed, cartilage in meat and neck with cartilage in poultry are processed during production. Since bones are, above all, a natural source of nutrients, especially calcium, we use small parts of poultry and goat meat as a natural source of calcium (according to current recommendations on feed rations the content should be approx. 10%). The meat is finely chopped and nothing artificial added. With our menus this procedure is quite easily possible because small parts can be finely minced without any bone parts remaining in the food. With meat such as beef, game, horse or sheep, it is not possible to grind bones. Cartilage is used to deliver the same values. We consciously refrain from using bone meal. This is the reason that the calcium content and phosphorus content can fluctuate slightly.

We had our pure meat cans analysed. The values are available at the service team.

YES! You can use the Pure Meat Menus and then supplement it yourself with fibre, fruit, vegetables and fats (such as goose fat or coconut oil). Coconut flakes are especially liked by cats. It is important that their demands are covered.

The menus for cats contain 96% meat and fibre. This fibre is given as fruit and vegetables and also, in a very small proportion, as cereals (mainly gluten-free and high-fibre-content). As dogs are primarily carnivores, you can theoretically also use the cat menus for smaller dogs. The pure meat types serve as a basis for menus. If you want to consciously feed your dog in very small portions, you can also use the cat’s menus.

The food can be stored in the refrigerator for approximately 3 - 4 days after the can has been opened. The food should be fed at room temperature. For this we also offer a plastic lid in our webshop, which fits exactly on top of the can.

YES. You can also freeze the food in portions.

Our food is to be seen like home cooked. For meat, we only use one protein source.

The pure meat brands are composed as follows:

Meat types: approx. 65% muscle meat, 25% heart, 10% lung
Poultry: approx. 90% breast meat, 5% neck and 5% bone

The menus for dogs:

Meat types: approx. 60% muscle meat, 25% heart, 10% lung and 5% liver
Poultry: approx. 80% breast meat, 5% hear, 5% neck, 5% bone, and 5% liver

The menus for cats:

Meat types: approx. 60% muscle meat, 20% heart, 10% lung and 10% liver
Poultry: approx. 75% breast meat, 10% liver, 5% neck, 5% heart, and 5% bone

Muscle meat contains high-quality protein as well as minerals and vitamins. Additionally it delivers the necessary fatty acids. The heart is a hollow, cone-shaped muscle and consists of dark red muscle tissue. In the food industry it is widely named either muscle meat or also offal; so we enumerate heart muscle specifically, not be mistaken. In addition to high-quality protein, heart also supplies taurine and cholesterol. Lung provides iron and holds a high level of valuable proteins, while it is considered low in calories. And bones are a natural source of nutrients with a high share of minerals, especially calcium.

Unlike muscle meat, the liver comprises of a lot of vitamin A, D and K as well as many other vitamins and trace elements. The menus for dogs therefore contain 5% liver. Since cats, unlike dogs, cannot produce vitamin A themselves, the menus for cats contain a higher proportion of 10% liver.

We consciously forgo the use of larynx meat due to the problem with the thyroid gland. Even when taking the neck of poultry it is ensured that no thyroid gets processed. However, this cannot always be avoided due to the production process. Spleen and kidney are not used.

We constantly try to ensure a consistent composition. Due to seasonal fluctuations and different demands, however, it may happen that the share of muscle meat or offal varies slightly. This, however, if occurrent, will only lie within the legal tolerances and analytical information on the label.

For further questions please contact our service team.

Only the legal values according to Weender analysis (further information here: "What does Weender analysis mean?") are determined, nutrients are usually not included. The values can, of course, fluctuate as no artificial supplementaries are added to our feed, but only organic aliments and the best meat, which is also in organic quality or from appropriate upbringing are used (with the exception of game, horse and fish). Therefore, it is difficult to specify such values. It is much easier for manufacturers who work with additives. Because they have a constant mix (mostly of synthetic origin) and therefore normally reach a more consistent value.

We constantly try to our best to ensure the same composition.

Due to seasonal fluctuations and different demand, however, it may happen that the share of muscle meat or offal varies slightly. This, however, if occurrent, will only lie within the legal tolerances and analytical information on the label. The pure meat menus have been tested for most of the nutrients. The results of these analyses are available on request at the service team of Herrmann's Manufaktur.

Weender food analysis is a standard method for determining the content of animal nourishment. It is differentiated according to moisture, crude ash, crude fibre, crude protein, crude fat and nitrogen-free extracts, the latter are not listed on labels.

The declaration of the ingredients on the label is more informative. Here you will find all the ingredients that are included. However, the sequence plays a major role here. This means, depending on the size of the share, the ingredients are listed in descending order.

Herrmann's food is basically suitable for all animals and secures a species-appropriate and natural feeding. Our food is to be seen like home cooked.
Also BARFERs get the opportunity to have an alternative, for example, on vacation.

The cans and pouches are coated with BPA-NI.-lacquers (Bisphenol-A-non-intent) and they are therefore BPA-free. We use an alternative coating without BPA as the starting substance. This is, as far as known, a new can coating, which is harmless to health - according to legislation and the current state of science. You can request the files regarding the manufacturer's declarations at the service team.

Our products are subject to raw material fluctuations, not every animal is the same. The consistency of the nourishment can therefore vary, depending on which meat is processed and which menu is produced. Since no binders or fillers are applied, various amounts of liquids may occur when the product is heated. Here, too, the water content of the vegetables used, plays a major role.

We only use one protein source at a time for each menus. In meat menus mainly muscle meat, heart and lungs are used and in poultry menus mainly breast meat, poultry neck and small parts. (Further information here: "What do small parts in the food mean?")

With the SELECTION line we also offer 5 menus for sensitive dogs. With these the nourishment is created so that it can support the health accordingly!

However, they are not a diet in the sense of veterinary! They will not replace a veterinarian or veterinary practitioner! In case of illness, the diet must be coordinated!

Having only one source of protein makes it easier to find menus that can match the composition. For allergic animals, the KREATIV-MIX is ideal, since you can put together the elements for suitable food individually.

Luckily, it rarely happens, but it should not happen at all. Unfortunately plastic cannot be located or detected. The livestock we use live in free-range and do not sit in cages with industrial feed. Therefore, it is possible that an animal – while foraging at the farm or meadow – inadvertently eats a piece of plastic e.g. a part of the ear clip. Unfortunately, this is the down side of the organic husbandry.

It is not possible for us to examine the raw material for foreign bodies in the stomach of the animals.

As our recipes are protected, we do not publish the percentage information on each ingredient. There is only the information regarding ingredients in our food on the label, in descending order.

Dents on cans should not occur, but can easily happen during the transport. The food will not be damaged by the dents and bumps unless the cans are leaking.

You can order our food through our webshop.
You will also find information on our website regarding our specialist dealers:

YES! Via the web shop of Herrmanns-Manufaktur it is possible to order a trial package free of charge. Only the postage will be charged.

Herrmann's dry food is characterised by the fact that dried meat and best organic ingredients are used exclusively. The meat content mentioned on the label refers to fresh meat share.

Additives such as colouring and flavour enhancers, etc., which can cause allergic reactions, are not included at all.

The dry food is processed like muesli, which means that all components are dried separately using warm air. The dried meat cubes are then crumbled so they stick to the vegetable and cereal flakes.

Depending on the recipe, vegetables, cereals or fruit are mixed with the meat.

Unlike other dry feeds, our food is soaked in warm water before feeding and hence is actually given as wet food.

We do not have a problem with mites because there is no high residual moisture in our product. Furthermore, we do not use grain-based adhesive.

Herrmann's dry food is characterised by the fact that dried meat and best organic ingredients are used exclusively. The meat content mentioned on the label refers to fresh meat share.

As our dry food is soaked in warm water and hence being fed as wet food, it is no problem – from our point of view - to mix it with canned food or to alternate it during the day.

Herrmann’s assortment does not offer dry food for cats. In Herrmann's point of view, this does not meet the natural diet of cats. As they actually have descended from desert animals, they draw most of their liquid from the food. Dry food can therefore cause health problems, especially if the animals do not drink enough.
